“UPDATE-11-9-24” •38 CHIEFS SPECIAL REVOLVER MODEL No. 60 Serial Number: 06707 NOTE: “S” is stamped below serial number. 5 Shot Revolver NOTE: “MOD 60” is stamped above the serial number. All data to date post research seems this revolver to be a model: “60”. NOTE: All paperwork List a model 36. However, after taking pictures of the serial number “MOD 60” is stamped indicating the revolver is indeed a Model 60. With that said I believer S&W sent the Model 36 paper with their model 60 when production first hit the market. That paperwork is included and pictured. I believe eventually the Model 60 associated paperwork was sent with the model 60. The Smith & Wesson Model 60 is a "J-Frame" based 5-shot revolver, which is the stainless steel version of the Smith & Wesson Model 36. Though the Smith & Wesson Model 36 had nickel plated versions, only the stainless steel version is officially the Model 60. In early production, the Model 60 was chambered in .38 special only just like the Model 36. Later production models upgraded the gun, lengthened the ejector rod shroud and chambered the revolver for both .38 Special and .357 Magnum. It started production in 1965 and a variant is still in production to this day. Smith & Wesson also offered a Model 60LS "LadySmith" version in .38 special only. The Model 60 is noteworthy in that it was the first all stainless steel revolver in standard full time production. It is available in 2.125", 3" or 5" barrel lengths. Great overall shape, firearm has not been tested for performance on a shooting range. It’s mechanically sound as a result of an initial field test only. Comes with extra speed loader STOCK-Checked walnut Magna with S&W monograms Leather holster with original box and paperwork for a model 36- again as mentioned this pistol appears to be a model 60 based on its stamped marking as indicated above.
