this isa pair of hand carved and painted folk art boxes. these are from the first part of the 20th century. made of a fine carving tool the boxes are carved with a scene and then hand painted to depict the scene in earthtone colors.. These boxes have winter scenes of homes and sled . the sides of the boxes are intricate carved in geometric patterns of fine design. 8" by 8" by 3" document box lock intact but the key is missing. 6 1/2" by 5" by 2 1/2" - lock intact. key missing. It has a slight tobacco smell to the inside. 'stamped Made in Russia there is wear around the edges and to parts of the paint. For the age this is typical for use. Very unique and an excellent gift for the collector of boxes.
