The Creation: All glaze formulas are created from scratch in Val do Sol. Some glazes are the result of historic research, some are obtained by artists cooperation, others are experimental. We use non processed raw materials to achieve a more natural look. Then the melting component of the glaze is adjusted in order to match our standard kiln temperatures. Dressing the clay body with the perfect glaze is process that requires a very well balanced creative and scientific process. The Production: All the clay and all the glazes used in Val do Sol products are made in house at a separate unit dedicated to clay and glaze manufacture. This unit serves exclusively Val do Sol and it is owned by Val do Sol. Val do Sol has 250 workers and an average capacity of 500.000 pieces per month. Our stoneware products are fired at 1150ºC and have less then 3% absorption. Our natural porcelain products are fired at 1300°C and have 0% absorption.
