this is a hand painted tile of a gentleman smoking a clay pipe with a drink in his other hand. The tile is initialed on the back P J . the owners of this tile who are very knowledgeable on Pauline and other Edgerton Pottery history have researched this to be an original work of Pauline Jacobus. A rare find. The tile color is a red tone and the hand painting is glazed. there is texture to the painting as if drawn onto the clay and then hand painted. The tile itself measures: 4 1/4" by 4 1/4" It is framed in an early oak or wood frame . The tile is a heavy tile of 1/2" Good condition. A small chip along the rim of the tile lower left but most is under the frame. (see photo)
