This auction lot is for a Saint's Reliquary Case. This case contains the "relic" of the Cross of St. Dismas- as is the accepted tradition and custom the "relic" is not being sold, only the case that holds it. The "relic" is a gift. This item has the red sealed wax of the Ecclesiastica and comes with papers as such. Cross of St. Dismas: The Penitent Thief, also known as the Good Thief, Wise Thief, Grateful Thief, or Thief on the Cross, is one of two unnamed thieves in Luke's account of the crucifixion of Jesus in the New Testament. The Gospel of Luke describes him asking Jesus to "remember him" when Jesus comes into his kingdom. This is a sacred and devotional relic of the Catholic Church. These religious items are from the estate of Sister Shaun Marie, OSU. NOTE: a much larger and more notable piece of this cross is in the Reliquary Collection of Notre Dame University.
