This vintage African basket 16" diameter is recognizable from the Hausa people in West Africa, both the tight weave and the color combination as well as the design. Hausa basket-making is traditional done by the women. The Hausa people collect various grasses, which they harvest every summer and weave into grain bowls, and shallow winnowing baskets such as this one. Purchased in the late 1980's and in excellent condition. NOTE: last picture is to show total collection. This is for the one basket only. Selling as is, as found in the estate.
