A great addition to anyone's Carnival collection - Print from Harper's Weekly, 29 March 1873 entitled "Mardi Gras in New Orleans - Grand Tableau of the Mistick Krewe". This was probably the most famous tableau/parade in Mardi Gras history - their theme was "Missing Links to Darwin's Origin of Species" and depicted General Grant as a Tobacco Bug, Henry Clay Warmouth as a snake, and Lt. Gov C.C. Antoine as a monkey. This was a bold display of political commentary and costume artistry and the first time a krewe dared to not maintain political neutrality in their presentation. It set the tone for the satire that often pervades Carnival today. Also, this was the first time the tableau costumes were made in New Orleans instead of Paris. A great piece of Carnival history in excellent condition. 23.5" across, 20" tall. 201 / 555 sold -

A cool vintage item - working condition. Spitz Junior Planetarium, plugs in, has original instruction book (kind of crunchy, but complete) that shows you have to adjust the ball for your tatitude/longitude (easy). 14" tall. Note: plastic ball has a couple of indentations at the base - does not seem to affect the working of the piece. Some kid will LOVE this. 265 / 555 sold -

Listed Artist Peggy Vineyard is still active today in the North Carolina area - many galleries across the South handle her work. Today she is concentrating primarily on abstracts, but at the beginning of her career she focused on watercolor - this painting of a single rose is from that earlier period. The gallery tag is still on the back, noting the original price of $535.00 for this piece. Watercolor, framed under glass, 18.5" x 21.5". Good condition. Signed. 296 / 555 sold -
